James Pickett Adams papers, 1850-1866.

Consisting of deed, 4 Apr. 1850, for twenty-one African American slaves, identified by name in family units, conveyed by S.C. Sen. Samuel Johnston, of Winnsboro, S.C., to James P. Adams and Andrew Crawford in trust for Margaret C. Adams; receipt, 27 Feb. 1856, for eight slaves, identified by name and age, purchased by R.C. Johnstone from H.L. Elliott. Contract, 14 June 1859, between James P. Adams and wet nurse Anne Lyons, of New York, N.Y., who was to accompany Adams and family to Liverpool, England; two letters, 30 June and 16 Aug. 1866, from M.D. Papy, Tallahassee, [Fla.], discussing legal affairs surrounding the settlement of an unnamed estate; and 5 undated manuscripts, incomplete biographical sketches of James P. Adams by Margaret C. Adams, of Congaree, S.C.
